This is due to the fact that the process of core aeration involves removing small plugs of soil from your entire lawn; if you overseed your lawn directly after aerating it, your new seeds will fall into these small holes. This will give the seeds direct contact with your soil and help them take root more quickly. Core aeration also reduces thatch buildup, which can help your new seedlings to successfully germinate as well.
When you overseed your lawn without aerating first, your new seedlings tend to germinate about 60 to 70% less than when you pair these services.
